I like to eat the food of better cooks than me
I like to talk about love with nicer people than me
I like to sit and cut wood with men wiser than me
I like to walk in the mountains with better mountaineers than me
I like to travel with better penny-pinchers than me
I like to sit in silent wonder with people who talk less than me
I like to get directions from those of clearer mind than me
Race with champions, walk with heroes, cook with haut chefs
I am ready to be your student, my brothers and sisters
Don't be suprised when I show up at your door.
I cannot be your freind because I am arrogant
I hear you speak and already I know you and am smarter
And clearer-minded than you. I want the company of my betters
We have nothing to talk about.
I cannot give you anything but my farewell
I cannot be your free therapy, your sounding board
Your support through thin and thin.
I need the company of those that see my arrogance
and humble me, but lovingly. Hear my chatter and
Silence me, but lovingly. See my attention wander
and help to bring me back to the now, but quickly.
Far better for me is the company of farmers speaking an
Unknown tounge - they lead by example in their calm
survey of life, their deep breaths and careful step
..... life is too short for
...the pain...
...and cries in anguish...
The adept ignores flies and does....
The pain.
The warrior feels nothing and kills the flies one by one
wasting no perspiration, enjoying the slow rythm
of the effort.
The journeyman tries with the flies. Caught between
an understanding of them as helpers, cleaness, ...
and revulsion. He tries to ignore, tries to feel, somehow
lapses into the addiction of killing.
The sage sees the flies, feels the flies and feels
no emotion - they are there, he is there.
What is the connection between unmotivated and
Nonviolent - intention separates the two. The Kalash
Are nonviolent and that includes being non-confrontatoinal - it
Shows it self in the decay and neglect. Like the women
Of elaborate beaded costume who is always grubby - the
hotels and houses go from excellent to disasterous in no time
at all - the taller they build it the farther it falls down
The fellow I stayed with for my first night on the roof was Hakkim Khan
